Head Girl Speech

Today I’ll speak about Some of the reasons for which I believe are the reasons for me to be the head girl. Now, will you want a Head girl who is not enthusiastic or dull not taking an interest in making our school reach it’s best. No, none of them will like. I believe our school is like a tree; we are all different parts of this tree, for example – The teachers are like the roots, which supplement us with knowledge and help us to grow. If I was Head Girl, I would be like the manure which the gardener spreads to enrich the ground, just that little added extra can make a big difference. I realise that, being Head Girl isn’t about being better than anyone else. It’s about having the trust of the student body to organise and represent them with honesty and enthusiasm, whenever called upon. If I was chosen as Head Girl, I would want to represent you, as well as inspire you. I’m friendly and approachable, so if anything is troubling you about school life, or if you have a really good idea, you won’t need to keep it to yourself. I want the student’s voice, that’s your voice, heard at IHS. I know being Head girl is a big responsibility. If given the opportunity, I would take that responsibility seriously, and be a respectable role model for all specially the younger ones of our school. As a team leader, I would want to encourage all of them to e at their best. A challenge and team work both these I do enjoy and I see this as essential to be Head Girl. To pay back something to school is another reason. Over my time at IHS I have taken part in many School activities and events, etc. . Now is my chance to give something back. To serve both pupils and staff is a thing I’d like to do. And yes if am choosen as one I assure you that I’ll put in my best efforts for my school.

Globalization and welfare of people Essay

DSL and wireless internet services are also provided by BTL which has been expanded in 2007 (BTL, 2008). Business and home users are provided various packages by the use of partnerships with international service providers. The coverage of internet has also been increased in rural areas like Teakettle and Pomona. Other rural areas like Roaring Creek Village, Riviera Area, Flores, etc were also provided better internet services. BTL will also implement wireless communication system in different parts of the country. This will assist the company in increasing its coverage of rural areas. The number of internet users increased to six thousand in 2007. The company also provides links to smaller internet service providers. Over a period of five years the demand for internet has increased with the company decreasing prices, improving service, and allowing customers to pay fixed charges. Revenues from internet services remain a small proportion of the company’s revenue. They account for seven percent of the total revenue of BTL. Globalization has also allowed the company to increase its profits from the international services which it provides. The reduction in international tariffs was also widely implemented in 2007 which allows people to make international calls to Belize at substantially lower rates. WebTalk was a popular service which was launched for internet users. This service allowed users to make international calls using VoIP connections (BTL, 2008). The minute rates are some of the cheapest as compared with other neighboring countries. Prepaid cards have also been launched which allow people to call at discounted rates. BTL charges the majority of its revenue on a per minute basis for fixed and cellular services. Internet and fixed line charges account for fourteen percent of the total revenue. The company experienced an increase of six million dollars by its provision of pre paid services. It also reported a profit of two million dollars increase in cellular phone services. Another three million dollars increase was reported for the provision of internet and data communication services (BTL, 2008). However these profits were negated by the reduction in several types of domestic and international customer tariffs. Cellular phone continues to remain the most attractive and growing market for BTL. The company also reported a decline of three million for outbound revenues. The year 2007 also witnessed substantial phasing out of obsolete and outdated equipment and systems (BTL, 2008). Operating costs were increased as the company implemented state of the art billing and customer care systems. New information technology systems were also implemented which increased the efficiency and effectiveness of the administrative, financial, and technical functions of the organization. The company managed to improve its capital ratio and cash in hand and on short term deposits. An estimated nineteen million dollars were spent to purchase property from the Belizean government. The company also witnessed a reduction in its debt due to the fiscal discipline and prudent financial policies of the management. Shareholders of the company also witnessed increased returns from their shares in 2007. An estimated forty one million dollars was increased in shares for stakeholders in 2007 (BTL, 2008). Globalization has impacted the welfare of the Belizean people. Some values of globalization have led to the replacement of traditional values with new ideas. Workers have been working for longer hours. On an optimistic note, it is linked with the spread of democracy in reality and with increasing public consciousness on issues such as gender partiality, human rights and ability to maintain progress. The people of Belize are helping to form ethical framework laid on the foundations of universal morals, values and principles. The challenge for them is to implement these rights in practice. Globalization has significant positive effects on the livelihood of people of Belize. Since 1990s, several foreign corporations have been established in Belize (Fernandez 52, 2006). People over there have started to capture these chances. They have started their own businesses and expanded them within the country as well across borders. Gradually, they have made investments and produced job opportunities for others. Growing and increasing these opportunities is the key to maintain growth and prosperity in Belize. Consumers in Belize also benefit from globalization because it allows them to access to a broad and extensive option of superior quality products. The higher wages and lower prices which are the result from dedicated and expert manufacture and international exchange mean that the consumers of Belize also get improved worth for their money. However, the result was that people from rural regions abandoned their homes and moved to cities for better working conditions in Belize. Privatization and other policies have also sped up the political-economic corruption in Belize which has tarnished the reputation of democracy, fortified the general height of political apathy and encouraged the de-politicization of Belize society. As a result, the development in Belize society is subjected to inefficient management of country’s affair, political corruption, inefficient legal structure, etc. Globalization is creating a new Belize socio-cultural identity, one that is generated by personal success, ground-breaking entrepreneurialism, the obvious use of foreign products, secularization, privatization social welfare and international accessibility and mobility. Belizean women have also gained from globalization as the workforce has increased. Education has helped the Belizean woman to become better equipped and independent (Jeffrey 70, 2006). They have mastered the necessary skills which are vital in modern society. They have created opportunities by improving communications skills. Globalization has also helped Belizean women in obtaining computer literacy. Information technology skills have been enhanced which are the requirements of globalization. The internet has helped created opportunities for female workers. Belize has benefited from globalization as the strides in communication, national banks, and investment companies have created new opportunities for finance. This has generated income programs like trading of money, stock, and bonds. These communication techniques have radically reduced communication costs and time to a bare minimum. Belizean people have also found that they can access a wide variety of services as a result of globalization. The internet has become a popular tool for sale and purchase of goods and commodities (Jeffrey 70, 2006). The policies of free trade also ensure that the vital necessities of life like food, clothes, equipment, products, etc are easy to obtain. Technology has also opened new mediums of communications while reducing the costs. Belizean people have found cheap and effective means of communication with each other. Societies have become united while being exposed to different cultures. Belizean government also has more efficient access to pharmaceuticals, health equipment, and educational equipment because of globalization. Health statistics have substantially improved as citizens can now obtain better health care and modern educational tools. Transportation system has improved in Belize which allows citizens to move to other countries at cheap rates (Barnett 65, 2000). Tourism which is the backbone of the economy has also flourished because of the globalization. Regional tourists visit the country purchasing goods for personal use. This increases the revenue of the state. Cultural events are also held which attract large number of domestic and regional tourists. This generates revenue for the Belizean government. The improvement in transportation and communication allows international tourists to visit Belize at cheap and less time consuming rates. Business has also been enhanced because of the investments in transportation as it makes it easier for companies to sell or purchase goods from other countries. Belize exports agricultural products which require efficient transportation methods to reduce the incidence of spoilage (Barnett 66, 2000). The expansion of companies to other countries is also beneficial because it provides important links between Belize and its neighbors. It acts as a type of advertisement for people who seek to invest in Belize. Globalization has provided a framework for progress along political, social and economic spheres.

U.S. Federal Government Expansion

UNIT 1 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT HIST105-1204B-14 U. S. History By Espola R. Smith AIU Online October 7, 2012 Abstract The U. S. federal government expansion of authority between the beginning of the U. S. Civil War and the end of the Civil Right Era had many historical events that took place. You will learn about some of these events that went on between the times of the Civil War and the Civil Right Era. These events have played a major role in the world today. They have made the world what it is today. You will learn the time periods in which the acts were enacted; these altogether are relevant periods that happened.UNIT 1 Individual Project Everything that happened in the U. S. federal government expansion of authority between the beginning of the U. S. Civil War and the end of the Civil Right Era was very important. The events that happen have had an effect on everything that is going on in the world today. Some people do not know it, but what happen is still affecting the way that thi ngs are being done today. There are plenty examples of the things that happened. One example of U. S. federal government expansion of authority between the beginnings of the U.S. Civil War and the end of the Civil Right Era were in 1865 when Congress was authorized to eliminate slavery. By doing this they created the thirteenth amendment. The Proclamation to stop slavery had already been presented. It was an executive order. The political structure showed that the Proclamation granted Congress the power to enforce through legislation, which is considered the most important part (Tony, 2012). This gave them the ability to go ahead and take further action against the Ten Confederate States. This gave the government a way to introduce and pass further proclamations and anything else they had to do in regards to the rights of slaves. Social structures showed that the full civil rights were still way off. The law and public opinion were not always on the same page. While knowing that by l aw freed slaves and their descendants were citizens and they still had the same rights as whites, but they were still getting treated differently than others (Tony, 2012). The Civil Rights Act of 1866 was another example. It was passed on 9th April 1866. This act declared that everybody that was born in the United States were now citizens. As being a citizen, they could now make and enforce contracts, sue and be sued, give evidence in court, and inherit, purchase, lease, sell, hold, and convey real and personal property. People who denied the rights to former slaves were guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction they were faced with a fine, imprisonment, or both (Reconstruction, 2003). The Force Act of 1870 was another example of the federal government expansion. This force act was passed by the congress of the United States shortly after the American Civil War helped protect the voting rights of African-Americans.This act enforced the right to the people of the United States to vo te in the several States. In this act, the government banned the use of certain things to prevent people from voting because of their race. The Force Acts were mainly aimed at limiting the Ku Klux Klan.. Thus the federal government had the power to prosecute the offenses, including calling federal juries to hear the cases (Shay, 2012). My last example of the federal government expansion happened in 1869. On May 10, 1869 was the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad. This railroad was also known originally as the â€Å"Pacific Railroad† and later as the â€Å"Overland Route†. It was a railroad that was built in the United States of America between 1863 and 1869 by the Central Pacific Railroad of California. A transcontinental railroad had been dreamed of as early as 1836 ((Completing the Transcontinental Railroad, 1869, 2004). The transcontinental railroad had long been a dream for people living in the American West. From time to time it was suggested by visi onaries and discussed by the orators and newspapers. The first transcontinental railroad link was almost instantly celebrated around the nation because a telegraph wire was connected to the last rail spiked. For many Americans, the new transcontinental link seemed to usher in a new era. The completion of the transcontinental railroad made the American West easily accessible, creating a boon of trade, business and population. The railroad has brought the country together (Completing the Transcontinental Railroad, 1869, 2004). These historical events have led to social, political, economic, and cultural change within the United States. They are important in the world today. If these historical events would not have taken place, than the world would be different as of the things that are going on today. It is a good thing that these events did take place, because it has made the world what is today. Not saying that the world is perfect, but it is better today than it was in the past. How ever, these events have made the world a better place. These events have changed the way people think and how they do things now. I am so glad that the historical events took place. If I had to grow up in the world before these events happen, I do not know if I would have been able to handle it.It was rough back in the day, but that is part of life. Operations Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 4

Operations Management - Essay Example Here I want to thanks my parents as well for all their prayers and support. By, Department of Project Management, Faculty of Management Sciences _____________________________________________ Dated: 26-04-2013 Contents Introduction 4 Background of Coca Cola 5 Histogram 7 In statistics, a histogram is a graphical representation of the distribution of data. It is an estimate of the probability distribution of a continuous variable and was first introduced by Karl Pearson. A histogram in a representation of tabulated frequencies, shown as adjacent rectangles, erected over discrete intervals (bins), with an area equal to the frequency of the observations in the interval. The height of a rectangle is also equal to the frequency density of the interval, i.e., the frequency divided by the width of the interval. The total area of the histogram is equal to the number of data. 7 Value Chain Analysis of Coca Cola and Histogram 7 Conclusion 10 References 11 Introduction Organizations have been ma de to earn economic profit. The essence of profit maximization is very important from the standpoint of the organizations that is why the entities have to undertake effective long term strategies to expand the revenue recognition of the firm (Andrew & Collingwood, 2005, PP. 98). Organizations have been around the strategies and long term benefits, that is why the organizations have to keep a certain check and balance over its strategies merely for their long run growth. Operations management is an area of management concerned with overseeing, designing, and controlling the process of production and redesigning business operations in the production of goods and/or services (Andrew & Collingwood, 2005, PP. 111). It involves the responsibility of ensuring that business operations are efficient in terms of using as few resources as needed, and effective in terms of meeting customer requirements (Andrew & Collingwood, 2005, PP. 95). It is concerned with managing the process that converts inputs (in the forms of materials, labor, and energy) into outputs (in the form of goods and/or services). The relationship of operations management to senior management in commercial contexts can be compared to the relationship of line officers to highest-level senior officers in military science. The highest-level officers shape the strategy and revise it over time, while the line officers make tactical decisions in support of carrying out the strategy. In business as in military affairs, the boundaries between levels are not always distinct; tactical information dynamically informs strategy, and individual people often move between roles over time (Andrew & Collingwood, 2005, PP 102). The entire world has been moving with a lightning speed and the stance of globalization is on its peak, in which any small effect on anything has an ultimate effect over the other things as well. Organizations have to take numerous strategies into account to sustain in the competitive environment. The competition stance has also increased due to the level of globalization, which enables the companies to undertake effective operating strategies as far as their long run growth is concerned. There is different analysis which an organization performs to assess the loopholes within its operations (Berry, 2001, PP. 52). Among different analysis

Discuss the impact of the global financial recession on our lives Essay

Discuss the impact of the global financial recession on our lives - Essay Example Most of the countries today are still under the influence of the global financial recession that occurred. Apart from affecting a nation as a whole, the global financial crisis had an impact on people at the individual level. Today, most individuals still suffer under the effects of the global financial recession that have persisted. Therefore, the global financial recession continues to have an impact on the lives of people today. A major impact of the recession is that many people lost their jobs. The economic recession had a negative impact on companies, including small and big companies. These companies were a major source of employment for many people. When the companies became bankrupt and others broke down as a result of the economic recession, they were forced to lay off their employees (McKibbin W. and Stoeckel 2009). Therefore, many people were faced with the problem of joblessness. Today, most companies still struggle to improve their financial health after the recession. For this reason, these employ few or no new employees, and they have reduced benefits for existing employees. Therefore, most employees continue to feel the pinch of the recession today. The global financial crisis also led to reduced access to credit. During the recession, many people were unable to access credit, including loans for their personal and commercial uses. This was mainly because the recession had a negative impact on the banking and financial institutions that provide credit. This therefore, put a limit on how fast individuals could grow their business and personal lives using credit. The recession forced financial institutions to raise their interest rates, and this discouraged borrowing. Today, since the effects of the global financial recession have persisted, the interest rates on borrowing in financial institutions have remained relatively high. Therefore, most people still feel discouraged to borrow, in order to expand their businesses or build homes, among

Reform and the Political Background of Public Education in Texas Essay

Reform and the Political Background of Public Education in Texas - Essay Example Governor Edmund J. Davis set â€Å"curriculum for all schools, grading of classes into different levels, systematic teacher certification, teacher conventions, and central administration† to improve public education (Moneyhon 393). In April 24, 1871, he legislated the board of education for public schools including the governor, attorney general, and superintendent. The board is responsible for the establishment of rules for the education system, provision for choosing and certifying teachers for their validity, salaries of staff, choose books and instruments for classroom use, guarantee â€Å"a common course of studies, and oversee the general operation of the schools† (Moneyhon 395). The teacher’s certification garnered criticism and complaints from private institutions because of the threat to their business. As a result, parents selected public schools for the education of their children. The dispute heightened when the State proposed for the imposition of ta xes. In 1875, DeGress formulated a recommendation to increase the salary of public school teachers, downsize supervisors’ jobs to avoid tax increase, and allow instructors to teach based on the three categories of teachers’ certificates (Moneyhon 410). The struggle in the political aspect between the Republicans and Democrats was evident during this year because of Democrats’ propaganda against Republicans pertaining to the expensive education system. The Democrats won, but the people suffered due to the low cost or budget in the education system. Major Reforms in Education In early 1980 and 1990s, Texas led the school reform through policies in standardizing testing and school accountability, which adheres to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 (Domina 200). Domina added that in mid-1990s, Texas aimed for higher education to improve the accessibility of education for poor and separated high schools receiving disparate education with Black and Hispanic origins. The first proposition on K-12 education system required an experiment to pursue K-16 reform model that aims to â€Å"improve the clarity and consistency of higher education signals and thereby shape the educational experience of high school students† (Domina 201). Prior to that event, the education reform bill was devised in 1981, which was called House Bill 246. It authorizes curriculum in every grade schools and district in Texas. It was followed by the commonly known as Chapter 75 that was written by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and proceeded by the State Board of Education. The bill necessitates students to master at least 70 percent to pass the grade or subject. However, H.B 72 was ratified and became a law in 1984. This bill became the standard of education in Texas, which gave priority to competent teachers in exchange of raising their salaries (Lutz 71+). Teachers must undergo professional competency called the Texas Examination of Current Administrators and Teac hers (TECAT), but they perceived it as an insult to their capability. Despite the complaints of teachers, principals, and coaches, the bill was not amended due to the threat of Perot, the overseer of Texas education system, to legislators (Lutz). Moreover, racial discrimination was an issue in the

Democracy in the Third World Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Democracy in the Third World - Essay Example (Tilly, 2007) There are various questions that need to be raised in this context which are as follows: Nationalism is that phenomenon which stems from complete loyalty and love for one's nation. Under the influence of nationalism, a citizen forms his personal sense of identity in context of the broad characterization of the nation. This consequently leads to mass identity along the same lines when like minded persons get together - a phenomenon better described as national identity. Reversibly, the identity of a nation is formed by the sentiments, attitudes and broad cultural assimilation under which its people function. The theories of nationalism and national identity are complementary to each other, and these inspire entire generations. (Tilly, 2007) Two strong factor that influences nationalism is a legacy of colonisation along with the ethnic groups. These factors, when combined provide a series of influences on the culture, historical experience and other such aspects of a nation or a state. This is due to the fact that the effect of colonisation is most seen on the evolution of ethnic groups. This is of special importance when studying a state in a third world country, where ethnic groups and tribes are of paramount importance in the basic structure of the demographics. Third world countries have seen the ravages of colonisation and are still attached to strong ethnic sentiments, in most cases. This makes for a strong context for nationalism. Yet, the character of nationalism and national identity is not enough for the survival of democracy. Democracy requires the strong footing of policy in order to support development so as to maintain a focus on nationalism and not just fighting poverty and hunger. Participants in Public Policy Public policy may be defined as that state of things or action where the public authorities exercise their freedom of choice in order to deal with certain issues. The tools or mechanisms used to deal with these issues are known as public policy. Public policy may also be defined as a set of decisions that are interrelated to one another. These decisions in turn, are taken by political parties, or other individuals involved in social service, with the broad aim of selection of certain goals that will fit into the situation at hand. Public policy may be implements to various aspects of one's public and domestic life, including welfare, health, justice, feminist policies, and interest group conflict, among various others. (Dye, 2001, p. 4 to 7)2 In this context, the participants in the public policy process may be segregated into two categories. The first are the official participants comprising of

Management Planning in TYCO Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Management Planning in TYCO - Case Study Example The well-conceived mission statement defines the fundamental unique purpose that sets TYCO apart from other firms of its type and defines where the company wants to be in the next 5 to 10 years. TYCO operates on the global market marked by fierce competition and constant changes. For this reason, TYCO uses planning as one of the main tools which help it to reach the stated goals and objectives. The implementation of strategy occurs at all levels of the organization, including both corporate and individual departments (www.tyco.com). To that end, each department and support unit complement and support one another (Marketing Planning, n.d.). Planning involves such important elements of management as strategy formulation defined s an ongoing approach that combines both successful practices of the past with fresh and innovative approaches to the future. In TYCO, the midlevel manager is not the person who is responsible for creating corporate strategy. Rather, it is his responsibility to translate corporate strategy into action. TYCO's core competency is to create unique products and services in comparison to its competitors (Planning 1995). In TYCO, all managers find themselves to a greater or lesser extent faced with the challenge of trying to balance routine office responsibilities (i.e., phone calls, answering requests for information, etc.) with the need to complete organizational goals and project tasks. In order to successfully plan, the manager must be good at establishing priorities. To that end, effective managers exercise good time management skills and set aside time to complete organizational goals and project tasks. For instance, TYCO's consultant must routinely balance competing requirements in selecting technologies and service vendors. The consultant, however, may choose to weigh the criteria differently, depending on the project and client requirements (www.tyco.com). The planning model checklist allows the consultant to attach an assigned numeric value for each vendor proposal across different categories that can be totaled and scored and used as a basis for comparison. The planning function of manage ment helps TYCO to organize its activities and performance in accordance with external and internal changes and market demands which influence the company and its customers (Planning 1995). At the beginning of the 21st century, legal issues, ethics and corporate social responsibility become the core of any business. Legal issues involve industry requirements and product quality, product standards and international regulations. The globalization of economic activity has forced TYCO to carefully consider its economic policies. The common motivation behind such regulatory and economic reforms is the perceived inefficiency of central planning and government-protected monopolies. One of the vivid examples of legal issues is TYCO's compliance with the international price regulations. Operating on a global scale, TYCO follows international regulations and rules. For TYCO it is more in keeping with performance-based regulation - that is, to create rewards and incentives for effective utility management. Price regulation has built into the regulatory framework a system of rewards and penalties. There are a number of ways to build in incentives,

Textin while driving Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 1

Textin while driving - Research Paper Example The most important body parts that are involved in driving are the hands, legs, and eyes. When texting, a person is also using hands and eyes for maximum attention. When driving and texting are mixed, it implies that the concentration of the driver is on one thing. In most cases, it is usually on texting, considering the need to respond or convey a particular message. Driving while texting is a traffic offense, punishable by the law. It is, in fact, a form of attempted murder considering the dangers and risks that the person is exposing other passengers and pedestrians into. Various cases of accidents have been reported due to the negligence of the driver as they were texting. Apart from the loss of concentration, in the process of browsing and replying to text messages, a driver is likely to be exposed to some news that may ultimately take away their attention and even make them unable to drive (Klauer 56). Texting is sometimes considered a harmless activity for drivers especially when they have to reply to an important message. They feel it will only take a few seconds of their time, and they will; be done with it. However, within those few seconds on a busy road, the driver is likely to lose control or not notice a pedestrian crossing or an oncoming vehicle. It is understood that drivers also need to communicate and get in touch while they are driving, yet doing it while in the action of driving is risky. Instead, drivers are advised to pull off the road and carry on with the necessary communication instead of risking the lives of other commuters. In most cases, passengers watch driver’s texting as they drive without raising their voices and hence contributing to the risks and dangers they are being exposed to. Even though it is the driver involved in the risky affair of texting, once an accident happens, it will not just be for the driver but also other commuters. Passengers

The Power of Hoping and Believing Essay Example for Free

The Power of Hoping and Believing Essay Everyone has a shadow in their life. They may be academic failure, failure of marriage, and failure in one’s career. Normally it is the forbidden area which no one can access. Most of the shadows can be forgotten as time goes by. Some of them, like a scar in the heart, undoubtedly leave their mark. Everyone has different ways in facing life’s difficulties, such as escape or solve it. The power of hoping and believing is very strong. It is through these beliefs that changes and discoveries are made. It is due to the acts of hoping and believing that advancement and modern technology thrive on. When we have a great idea and if we hope and believe in it, chances are, we can discover something that could help make our world a better place to live in. Lauren Slater in the â€Å"Three Spheres,† writes, â€Å"Sometimes I wish time stayed solid, in separable chunks as distinct as the sound of the ticking clock on my mantle right now. In truth, though, we break all boundaries, hurtling forward through hope and backward on the trail made by memory. †(7) In the quote of Three Spheres, Lauren Slater naively wishes that time can stand still instead of escaping to go to Mount Vernon. It is because the memory in a specific period and the picture of Mount Vernon made her escape from the difficulties in her life. For me, I think it is the writer’s wish that time should stand still and be compartmentalized like a source of reference to probably make her statements and generalizations correct. But in truth, there is none. Because what may be true now can be proven wrong in the future. There are no compartments and we all move forward. We add on to the general knowledge and we just look back not for reference of something constant but only for memory’s sake. In addition, we always want to be time travelers that go back to our lovely memories. It is because we always consider the real word as cruel. A lot of people don’t want to face difficulties and suffering. Aside from that, no one knows what will happen in the next moment. The future is a secret. We don’t want to take the risk since the difficulty will come in the next minute. We humans always feel scared when we face something we don’t know. Many people are scared of the dark because they can’t see further. Death is a mystery since we don’t know exactly when and where it will happen. People always feel interested and scared about death. Death is a thing that we can’t get back from once we enter it. It seems to have no doors for us to learn about. The only way we can learn about death is from religion. A major thing that you would probably want to compartmentalize or stay on are your happy moments. In most cases, people who suffered a tragic loss of a loved one would wish that time stood still so that they can continue to be with their loved one. On some instances, a loved one, a good business venture or a prime economic stage that had gone bad would make people want to wish for the time to stand still and remain during their â€Å"good times†. Typically, we want to stay in the â€Å"good times† when we lack the confidence and the ability to solve our problems. However, as we all know, time is constantly moving and can only be compartmentalized for memory of how we thought or how we felt at that moment and can never be something there for us to continuously have those thought and feelings. Time moves on as life moves on. In psychology, a person stuck in a subject is a self- induced hypnotic. â€Å"I can do it! I can do it! † We always say this when we are facing difficulties. I kept saying this before I gave a speech. I understand it does not give you a great help, but believing in yourself is very important. As it is human nature to constantly want better conditions of living, we always think of ways to improve on what we have right now and we hope and believe that our ideas could be a great contribution to the betterment of our society. As can be seen in technology, our computer has evolved from a big desktop system to e-notebooks. From x-rays we now have ultra-sound, MRI and CT scan. From the movies and film industry the reel became, betamax, VHS, Laser Disc, Compact Discs, DVD, and USB and now we can even download movies through the internet. Visiting her old home, Mount Vernon, is the first step for Lauren Slater to face her cruel history. People can understand her reason for escaping her difficulties. Although we may sometimes want time to stand still, it is our nature to hope and believe for something better to come our way, and only look back at memories. If time really stood still then our world would be a boring place to live in because there will be nothing new and nothing to look forward to. Hoping and believing gives us life and energy to move forward and make our new day exciting, adventurous and worth living.

Technology and tourism

Technology and tourism Introduction Facebook is not a book with your face on it, Tweeting is not the sound of a bird in the early hours of the day, blogging is not something which is related to loggers in a forest; but who would have said that these terms would have actually revolutionised the world that we live in? Social media has had an imperative influence upon the social structure of most individuals. Even though many might utilise such web based tools for personal amusement, the vast marketing opportunities offered by these systems has been increasingly recognised in various industries, amongst which one finds the tourism industry. Technology and Tourism Growth within the travel and tourism industry is driven by a multitude of factors. These factors are determinants towards the practice of tourism and are categorised as four distinct but yet interrelated environments. These environments are the competitive environment, socio-cultural environment, political environment and technological environment. One can say that the tourism and travel industry has been one of the most successful in utilizing the Internet to market its products. Reaching out to possible consumers through the use of the internet has significantly changed the purchase of tourism services and products and changes in technology have created new opportunities for leisure and tourism organizations. Nowadays it is not simply about having an updated website with information on it, but we have moved on to another level whereby tourism destinations, organisations and companies utilise social networks and e-tourism to promote, advertise, showcase and most of all keep consumers abreast of any updated information in seconds. Whilst offering the possibility to provide new products and re-enforce markets, the use of technology has also led to substantial cost reductions when marketing a product or service. As a result of improved technological systems, one is to consider the benefits various components in the tourism supply chain have achieved: Central reservation systems in hotels; accounting programs and yield management services allowing accommodation providers to compare actual demand with predicted demand; Online transportation booking systems are some examples of these advancements made possible through the creation of online software and programmes. But a current issue which will be addressed in this assignment is the use of social media and networking within the tourism industry. Over the past four years the University of Wollongong in Australia has conducted a series of research studies on the subject of travellers and the internet. Featured on their Facebook webpage, an interview with associate Professor Ulrike Gretzel, from The Institute for Innovation in Business and Social Research (IIBSoR) at the Faculty of Commerce, discusses how social media has influenced travel decisions and the marketing perspectives of destinations. â€Å"Our studies find that a majority of travellers think that social media contents are more up-to-date, more fun to read, more interesting, more relevant, more comprehensive, more specific and more helpful in making decisions than information provided by tourism marketers† Featured as one of the sections in the ITB World Travel Trends Report 2010/2011, Social Media is signalled as one of the current travel and tourism trends. Earlier in 2009, Ms. Isabel Bommer, amongst other key note speakers at ITB Berlin had addressed the topic of ‘Market and technology trends in digital travel sales and explained how: â€Å"in the main travel markets, the Internet is a targeted way of becoming the most important channel for holiday sales, information and recommendations† And further describes that nowadays, two out of five reservations are completed online and more than half of all European travellers (55 %) uses the Internet for information about their travel destination, travel providers and special offers†. The development of Web 2.0 has facilitated communication, sharing of information and enhanced collaboration over the World Wide Web. This phenomenon engages participation from viewers and internet users on a free cost basis and thus there are no restrictions as to who can use these channels, when and how. In the article titled ‘The Challenge of Social Networking for Associations by Peter Jackson and Michael Collins, what is referred to as the ‘Digital/Online evolution is described as having taken place in defined stages over the last decade. First ‘the need for a website and ‘email communication was embraced, second was to ‘offer online services such as e-commerce and booking online, third the surfacing of Web 2.0, and now the Social Networking phenomenon. This change has allowed business and objectives to be measurable. This in turn has aided towards analysing, learning and executing demand strategies within the work field. During this years ITB fair ,Rohit Talwar, CEO for Fast Future Research, described in his presentation titled ‘The Future of the Travel Industry-Scenarios for 2020 that there will be an evolution towards â€Å"deliver(ing) personalised service choices through immersive, tactile and Multi-dimensional technology interfaces†. Thus technology will continue to play an important role within the tourism field and a new platform for destination or tourism marketing and branding is being built through the development of social media and enhanced social networking. Defining Social Networking and identifying the technological mediums through which Tourism providers and their products are showcased â€Å"Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, like small rural communities or a neighbourhood subdivision, if you will† I consider this particular definition as being relevant to the tourism industry due to its reference to the word ‘communities. Tourism is, in itself, a practice which involves individuals. Whether you are a tourism provider or consumer, the human resource is at the basis of this industry and community relationships are created and nurtured through its practice. Through social networking, one is given the opportunity to participate in gaining information, whilst being entertained. If we are to consider the various programs or channels through which social networking takes place, the following medium have gained recognised importance for potential tourists as well as tourism providers around the globe. Review Sites are an example of a user garneted content (UGC), more commonly referred to as a Consumer Generated Content. Consumers are given the opportunity to share their brand experiences and in so doing assist others into making more informed decisions and recommendations. An example related to the tourism industry is TripAdvisor, an online review site which features advice on hotels, flights, travel guides amongst other things. Individuals submitting reviews can upload their images of their vacation, write personal opinions about a hotel, restaurant or establishment visited, whilst portraying their views. Even though one can argue that there is no ‘filtering of reviews submitted, and that certain reviews might be more to the detriment of the provider rather than to their gain. For over ten years, TripAdvisor has earned the reputation of being an invaluable resource for travellers; enabling online users to rate and review travel related experiences and assist prospective tra vellers to make informed decisions. High rankings also result in an achievement for the particular provider and certificates such as the ‘Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence which was given to the Grand Hotel Excelsior in 2010 make viewers acknowledge that the hotel is trustworthy when it comes to customer expectations. Another hotel which has been awarded the prestigious 4.5 stars out of five for excellence by this same review site is the Hilton Malta. These achievements are newsworthy as hotels, such as both the Hilton Malta and the Grand Hotel Excelsior help raise Maltas international reputation as a tourist destination in the world wide scenario. Blogs are a vehicle for marketing and advertising an event or ‘happening. Through the exposure of information, customers are allowed to interact by providing their comments and suggestions. In the tourism industry, blogs can be utilised to inform viewers about successful accomplishments. A case we could use for this particular example is the blog of the Excelsior Grand Hotel utilised to inform viewers about their award from Trip Advisor, whilst thanking their customers for their loyalty and belief in them. Informing customers and potential customers about new events, promotional activities, special offers ,amongst other things, can lead to repeat business and also new business alike .The possibility of uploading images and videos, as in the case of review sites allows the destination or tourism product to become more visual and thus appealing. In an article titled ‘The Social Revolution, journalist Sarah Lee explores how the growth in the social networking arena is leading to an online marketing revolution diversifying the channels and methods through which marketing takes place. Lee lists social networking sites such as ‘Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, LinkedIn, Plaxo, YouTube, Twitter, WAYN, and Flickr.as being the most popular types of Web 2.0 websites falling under the ‘Social Networking framework. She also shares the views of various hoteliers and industry advisors on this topic and quotes one of the directors of Turner PR, Ms. Angela Berardino as stating that â€Å"In travel, social networking evens the playing field so small hotels can compete with bigger brands. Small hotels can perform better on social networks as they tend to have more personality and are unrestricted by the confines of the corporate marketing strategies of larger brands.† The article goes on to explain how hotels should view their reviews and what is being said about them over these sites. It is now no longer possible to base customer ratings upon hotel room questionnaires since most visitors resort to social networking sites to post their photos, share experiences (whether good or bad) and showcase what their holiday was all about. So hotels, as mentioned in the article, can improve their operations and develop a better knowledge and understanding of their services and products through these reviews. Understanding the importance of Social Media in the tourism field So far, we have identified and listed the various channels through which social media takes place. As associations, organisations, and destinations recognise the importance of keeping abreast with this new opportunity within the marketing field of tourism, it is important to outline the constraints of such medium alike. Social media is ultimately about a service; a service which incorporates information, contact and transactions, entertainment and the creation of relationships. This idea was outlined during a workshop held in February 2010 by the MICE segment within the Malta Tourism Authority. Ms. Karin Elgin-Nijhuis, from TEAM Tourism Consulting, headed a two day workshop programme which was aimed at informing the hoteliers about the subject of Social Media. The over ruling challenge described by Elgin-Nijhuis is that peoples travel decisions are not only structured by a destinations brand image, but also by the recommendations which are spread through word of mouth or ‘mouse. Opportunities will arise as more potential travellers will learn about ones product. So whilst we are seeing a shift in the ‘traditional sales and marketing methods, online e-tourism is offering travellers a primary source of information. Demand patterns are changing as knowledge of destinations and tourism and travel options are increasing and being showcased. Thus destinations and tourism providers have to adapt and develop new skills towards using technology to their benefit. To conclude, it is important that we acknowledge that marketing tourism or a destination brand is not solely about positioning, but rather a practice that requires specialisation, efficiency and effectiveness in order to improve the possibilities within the tourism field which are now limit-less.

Dissociative Amnesia- Memory Loss Essay -- short term memory, American

Introduction: The main Character is Lenard; he is an average looking male in his mid to early thirties. At first look one would never think that there is anything wrong with him, he speaks clearly and intelligently, id s polite individual and well-mannered when interacting with others. Lenard does the typical things and daily activities that a normal person does. On sight one can’t tell that, but Lenard has a condition where he cannot recall anything that happens to him within a matter of minutes, things such as people he meets, the conversations he had and places he’s been become distant after a few minutes. The only thing that Lenard is able to remember is those things that happened before the incident that caused his diagnosis. The things that Lenard is able to recall are those things such as his name, who he is, and the way his life was before the traumatic experience. Lenard is incapable of making new memories as well as short term memories. Diagnosis: In the film Lenard tells people that he has short term memory loss, this isn’t the case though, Lenard’s disorder is in fact more serious then he knows. Lenard has; individuals who have this condition like Lenard have difficulties remembering parts of their lives from a single event or numerous events that have occurred. Dissociative amnesia typically occurs when a traumatic event happens in that individual’s life. For Lenard, the traumatic event that occurred in his life was the rapping and murder of his wife which occurred in their own house while Lenard was asleep, then awoke to see what was going on, to which he was hit across the head with a gun which caused his condition, then left laying besides his lifeless wife on the bathroom floor, Symptoms & Axis I-V: The DSM... ...ma he encountered didn’t occur. The Advantages of Keeping pets :: Pets Animals

Would you like to live a happy and productive life? Then get pets! I must admit it is hard to believe that domesticated animals can promote mental and physical health, but many studies have shown that they can. People who own pets have been known to lead longer and happier lives than those without them. As we get older, we become less active. The more inactive we become, the higher our risk of death. We therefore need something in our lives to keep us busy so we don’t die prematurely, and a pet is just the thing to do it. This is probably because of the companionship, exercise, and responsibility that they provide. On the other hand, you must find a pet that is compatible with you or with your life style. Maintaining good mental health is crucial for living a normal life. Many psychiatrists have found that patients with anger management problems can be calmer with a pet around the house. Sometimes, just the feel of a pet in the house can do wonders on the nerves and eliminate certain aggravation. A significant point that has been brought up by animal right activists is that abuse inflicted on animals is, in many cases caused by frustration caused by an outside conflict. Outside conflicts can be caused by work stress, school or relationships. Also, people need companionship to keep stress and mental anguish at bay. When people begin questioning why they are alone, they begin doubting their own self-worth. Then suicide becomes an issue. When a person becomes depressed, their body pays the price. A depressed person will neglect to care for themselves and will slowly deteriorate. Having a pet will give said person companionship. Just being able to have someone to come home and talk to or play with could be the difference between serenity and psychosis. In women, especially, is the extra comfort provided in just being able to care for someone. Apart from that, owning a pet forces one to take on the responsibility of keeping it alive. One’s pet must be fed, watered, and kept healthy. Doing this requires us to move about.

Grapes of Wrath Jim Casy The Silent Philosopher :: essays papers

Grapes of Wrath Jim Casy The Silent Philosopher Jim Casy: The Silent Philosopher It is a widely accepted theory, in numerous areas of study, that a whole is the sum of its parts. It has also been acknowledged that the reaction formed by a combination of forces is greater than the sum of the individual forces. Such a synergistic principle has become a strong motive behind many incidents in history, in which individuals have assembled into a group to become an increasingly powerful and influential force. This is the case in John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, in which thousands of farmers are affected by the economical, climatic, and agricultural crises of the 1930’s and forced to migrate to the promising valleys of California. As these migrants make their long, arduous journey across the deserts of America, they are faced with numerous predicaments, most of which place them on the brink of survival. In the end, they learn that it is their love for one another and their togetherness that will allow them to complete the journey and fulfill their lon g-lived dreams. As the story progresses, a marked growth becomes evident among each character as they make the transition from an â€Å"I† level of thinking to a â€Å"we† level of thinking. One such character is the itinerant preacher, Jim Casy. Although his actions are not directly influential to the story’s plot, it is his philosophies and outlooks on life and religion that affect the events, as well as the other characters, in the story. Perhaps the most significant theme interpreted from the journey of the Joad family is that of the shift from the â€Å"I† to the †we† mentality. This concept results mainly from the mutual relationships formed between the migrants and their willingness to help one another. As the migrants progress on their journey, their concern for the well being of others overshadows their concerns for themselves. Their actions become completely altruistic and intended to protect the functionality of the migrant force as a whole. They readily make sacrifices to one another and work to create mutual bonds that help one another survive. Another aspect of the â€Å"I† to â€Å"we† transition is that of the togetherness of the migrant families and the unions formed between them. As the migrants begin to face the all the same hardships and dilemmas, they begin to organize and function as a single unit. The individuals among this unit are capable of helping one another a nd advancing the progress off the whole unit.

Is it possible to distinguish between science and pseudo-science? Essay

Introduction: For starters let us try to define both terms. Science is an organized, disciplined, unbiased search for knowledge for the world around us. Remember, Science does not discover facts, but rather finds statements (theories, formulae, descriptions) as a result of having examined the real world. These statements describe what may be expected to be found under stated conditions. Note, science is always prepared to adjust, reverse, abandon and/or subtract to/from its statement, in order to more closely approach the truth: The truth being an unreachable goal, which we will eventually and essentially get to (Randi, Internet). Pseudo-science is an established body of knowledge which tries to pass itself as science. It tries to claim legitimacy that it would not otherwise be able to do on its own. We can also call it fringe or alternative science. It basically lacks the carefully and thoughtfully interpreted experiments which provide the foundation of the natural sciences. Incidentally, this is what contributes to its advancement. A vital point to emphasize is that a body of knowledge is used because science involves elements of intuition and guesswork. In regard to this therefore we discover a major weakness in utilizing the experiments approach in science. This comes about because experiments do not always test a theory adequately, moreover results can be incorrectly interpreted or in cases be plain wrong. In legitimate science, these problems tend to be self correcting, through critical scrutiny by the original researcher of the greater scientific community (Chem1, Internet). Pseudo means fake. Thus, the surest way to spot a fake is to know as much as possible about the original, genuine or the actual science itself. Forthwith, it is of critical importance to understand the nature of science. This will include getting to grips with the criteria of evidence, the design of meaningful experiments, the weighing of possibilities, the testing of hypotheses, the establishment of theories and the many aspects of scientific methods that make it possible to draw reliable conclusions about the physical universe (Quakewatch, Internet). Having said this we ask, is there really a fine line between real science and pseudo-science? And if so, where does it lie? From an initial inspection, it is plain to see that these two are as opposite as rationality and religion are. Whereas we use basic principles such as objectivity and accuracy to establish a finding, we also use in science certain admitted assumptions about reality. These, though, eventually do support themselves; they become proven or result in false verification thus discarded. Pseudo science on its part will utilize invented modes of analysis which substitute for meeting the requirements of scientific method, though they basically violate the essential attributes. It’s easy to identify many examples of these, but it is the more subtle and insidious and convincing cases that require better definition of the attributes involved (Randi, Internet). The quest to clearly identify and determine the line dividing science and pseudo-science is indeed daunting. This is because the media has so much muddled the waters that we are, in instances, compelled to think what we see or hear in the media is the truth. It is wise to remember that, pseudo-science transcends all fields of science. Not one field is safe. For example, in the field of physics [and by extension, other natural sciences] the following are cases (Quackwatch, Internet) that have been used to try and unmask pseudo-science: †¢ It is common the find proponents of pseudo-science referring to work many years old. Unlike science were literature is updated every other year (latest editions) to take into consideration the rapid accumulation of new facts and insights, pseudo-scientists will rarely revise. †¢ This point above exposes pseudo scientists to the intense criticism of holding on to bogus facts proposed many years ago. It has been found that they research by relying on newspaper clippings, hearsay, ancient religions or mythological works as their point of fact. They never bother to perform independent investigation to check their source. †¢ Also they are fond of beginning with a hypothesis. Usually, this hypothesis is very emotionally appealing and spectacularly implausible. After the emotionally appealing hypothesis has been fronted, they then look for supporting evidence. Should any conflict be identified it is quickly ignored or rationalized. †¢ They ignore or misrepresent genuine scientific fact. Pseudo-scientists will instead rely on unverifiable eyewitness testimony, stories, tales, hearsay, rumor and dubious anecdotes. They will invariably rely heavily on subjectivity validation. Newspaper horoscope describes astrology perfectly making many people believe in them. But on close examination, it is found they describe generalities enough to cover virtually everyone (Quackwatch, Internet). No pseudo-scientist who was shouting on the roof top at the beginning of the year offering/ putting forward predictions and hypothesis will be found to analyze how many of them came to pass at the end of the year (Chem1, Internet). This is unlike science where all principles must be tested and remain continually questioned or rejected over time. In pseudo-science, such predictions or hypothesis are not often falsifiable and are equally unlikely to ever be altered or shown to be wrong. This is erroneously taken by proponents as evidence of validity. Where as scientific explanations must be stated clearly in unambiguous terms, this is the opposite in pseudo-science. They often invoke scientific terms in dubious context. For example, ‘energy vibrations’ and ‘subtle energy fields’ sound impressive but are essentially meaningless terminologies (Chem1, Internet). Looking at the case of Electromagnetic frequency for instance, f or a long time pseudo-scientists fronted a case for its likelihood to be associated with causing the onset of cancer. Communities leaving near power lines and also electricians were deemed to be most at risk of contracting cancer in this way. However, after substantive review of existing literature and interview of specialists in the field, it was found that the statistical evidence for a correlation between the two was negligible and growing smaller. Even in the case of electricians, no effort was made to eliminate other factors before placing an accusing finger at high voltage power lines by the pseudo-scientists. Further, pseudo scientists offer little or no theoretical explanation of how such electromagnetic fields [EMF] can actually produce cancer (Csicop, Internet). On the other hand, science is its own worst enemy. It allows stifling of orthodoxy of beat ideas. Science has the tendency of forgetting that many of the best ideas in human history began as heresies. Comparisons between bizarre claims and science as it is actually practiced will show that no sharp division can be established (Math, Internet). Forget the various checklists given to distinguish the two[i. e. science and pseudo science], as none perfectly achieves this. The disagreements and disparities are more to be found on the finer points. Even the most hardened skeptic does not deny the possible validity of paranormal phenomena. It is necessary to point out at this juncture that, the fathers of science; Einstein and Newton, considered today as geniuses, were in their age actually considered heretics. What they chose to bring forward as science was so much against the norm then, that nobody dared believe them. They did not produce their revolutionary ideas in one moment of brilliance as propagated by scientists (findarticles. com).

Pest

Name: Kimberly Hodge 1. Using APA citations to support your statements, explain what a PEST table is and why it is important to an organization (1-2 paragraphs). Pest Analysis is a frame work that strategy consultants uses to scan the mirco environment in which the firm operates. (Value Based 2013) PEST is Political, Ecomonic, Social factor and Techonolgies factors. Companies will use this in workshops and it will make the managmenets brainstorm techniques using PEST for strategic plannings, marketing planning or development in the business or the production. (Value Based 2013) 2.Include an explanation of the organization and environment you are focusing on in the PEST table (3-5 sentences): I answer #4 before I answer this one. It is combine of both questions. The organization would be my bike shop. I would use this table to think how this would affct my employees and the consumers. Political section, with the Furlough going on and unemployment numbers are going up.. I need to be aw are that I will have good days and bad days with sales. The next couple months were be good month because income refunds are coming in and people want to buy and spend but then at the same time consumers may be saving as well.International trades will be affecting my bike shop because some of the bikes are shipped from France, Switzerland and other countries. I need to be aware this could affect my business as well.. Social is a huge impact for any business. And I think economic influences social a lot. Then Technologies, there are always new gadgets that are being added to the bikes or can be purchased to add to the bike. As a management, I have to be aware that when I promote new technology, I need to let them know what is new and how does it work. 3. 4. Identify 3-5 items in each category and post them in the PEST table below.Provide enough detail to explain your thoughts for each item. One or two lines will suffice for each item; please avoid using one-word, generic items within the table. Political1. Tax policies2. political stability3. safety regluations4. international trade regulations and restricitions5. contract enforcement law consumer protection| economic1. stage of the business cycle2. consumer confidence3. exchange rates/inflaction rates4. Interest rates and montery policies5. unemployment policy| SOCIAL1. income distriubiton2. labor/social mobility3. lifestyle changes4. health consciousness and welfare, feelings on saftey5. iving conditions| TECHOLOGY1. government research spending2. new inventions and development3. energy use and costs4. rate of technology transfer5. life cycle and speed of technological obsolescence| 5. If you were the leader of the organization used here, how would you utilize the information in the PEST graph, and what changes would you make based on your results? How would those changes affect the success of the business? (1-2 paragraphs) When I am leader of the organization, I will need to look each catergory and determine what are affecting our people in our country.People may be looking for changes or having trouble adapting to changes. Why are the changes happening like the example in the book talking about when the records were going out and the CD were coming in and it happened almost over night. This means people who had record players did not have CD players.. The customers had to buy CD players before they could buy the CD. This is what I need to look, what will happen if I change something, does this mean the consumers will have to spend money to make something adapt to something such as CD player. With the government changes laws, it affects our people.Like recent event, the Furlough, I know some people are losing two days of work per payperiod, this will affect their paychecks which will affect the social. So as a leader, we have to look how each category will affect the next. 6. References (please use proper APA set up as you construct the reference list): Valued Based Management. Plastic Surgery

There are no secrets that the world is getting more open minded idea of plastic surgery. Cosmetic procedures become a trend among people who are seeking a way to improve their appearance, because everyone wants to be more attractive and pretty. In some countries, plastic surgeon is as common as supermarket. For example, Korea is number one in the world in term of plastic surgery. One of five Korean admitted that they have done cosmetic procedure. Because of the image centric culture in today’s society, more and more people tend to get plastic surgery in order to please the majority standards of beauty. Plastic surgery is just a swallow way in order to conform to this image centric society majority’s standards. People should not just only pursue the ephemeral appearance and overlook the permanent of inside beauty. Plastic surgery is an unnatural way to change people’s appearance. During the surgery, people can effectively improve their appearance in short time. The most common types of surgery such as Botox injection, breast lift and double eyelids surgery are the poplar surgeries that people usually get. Besides, cosmetic surgery is very costly. Surgeons need to spend around thousand dollars for every diagnosis. Furthermore, Cosmetic surgery is actually an operation. That mean the patients need to take risk on the surgery, and the surgery is not also 100 percent success. The operation is very painful and the patients need to take a long time to recover their body. In spite of all the risk they take and the expensive of the surgery, every year, there have uncountable people are still willing to take action on surgery in order to conform to someone else’s standards of beauty. This is what our society look like; the standards of beauty are completely twisted, people are more care about the appearance than their health. It is really understand some people try to get cosmetic surgery to improve their appearance because not t not everyone have an angel face when they born with. That is the reason that people just try to found a way to get satisfied about their appearance. Can we blame on the people who get plastic surgery? No, it is not their fault. This is actually the fault of our society, the fault of human concept. Because of our image centric society, people judge others just only form their appearance. People usually make fun on the person who is ugly or fat, and the ridiculous reason just because the person who born with an unperfected face. Some people are never know about how the disadvantage of an ugly face. Because of the pathological moral concept of this society, plastic surgery is the best way to help some people to conform to someone else’s standards of beauty. The sad thing is plastic surgery can just only change about people’s appearance, it cannot change people’s thought. What people should care more is the moral beauty more than the appearance. That is no reason for us to change our appearance and beauty standards just to conform to someone. The standard of beauty is just an indiscernible thing, and it should be more personal thing which belongs to you. The way to change people’s appearance is not to change about the out looking, is about how to change people’s thought. Plastic Surgery Name: Anna Teacher: Taliasin Subject: writing Date: March 22th 2013 Reseach Essay: Plastic Surgery Plastic surgery Plastic surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the correction or restoration of form and function. Though cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is the best-known kind of plastic surgery, most plastic surgery is not cosmetic; plastic surgery includes many types of reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns. (Kita) There are two types of plastic surgery: cosmetic plastic surgery and reconstructive plastic surgery.Reconstructive plastic surgery is performed to correct functional impairments caused by burns; traumatic injuries, such as facial bone fractures and breaks; congenital abnormalities, such as cleft palates or cleft lips; developmental abnormalities; infection and disease; and cancer or tumors. Reconstructive plastic surgery is usually performed to improve function, but it may be done to approximate a normal appearance. Cosmetic su rgery involves techniques intend for the enhancement of appearance through surgical and medical techniques. It is specifically concerned with maintaining normal appearance, restoring it, or enhancing it beyond the average level toward some aesthetic ideal. Some common reconstructive surgical procedures include breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, cleft lip and palate surgery, contracture surgery for burn survivors, and creating a new outer ear when one is congenitally absent. The most common reconstructive procedures are tumor removal, laceration repair, scar repair, hand surgery, and breast reduction plasty. In A sia, may be a lot of people think that Koreans are the group of people who are most interested in cosmetic surgery. But this idea should be changed because there is data shows that cosmetic surgery in other countries is also very popular, especially in China and India.A few years ago, the international Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Association investigated the quantity of surgery and non-operative procedure face-lifting of 25 countries; the data include the 75% of the total global plastic surgery. The data shows, the plastic surgery number in America occupied 17. 5% of the total; Brazil is the second; and China's the third, occupied 12. 7% of the total; India followed it at fourth.
